I am a 24 year old Psychology Graduate from the University of Leicester and a recently qualified 'Outstanding' teacher of English. I have also worked as an examiner for AQA marking English Language exams for the new 2017 cohort.
I am very passionate about teaching and raising aspirations of young people. After completing a PGCE course and teaching for a number of years I am aspiring to undertake a doctorate, pursuing a career in Educational Psychology. I have had part-time jobs since the age of 15 and so have worked through my GCSE's, A Levels and degree whilst maintaining high performance in all. I am diligent, intuitive, perceptive and love a challenge as made evident by my successful and continual juggling of work/academic commitments, as well as being the House Captain during Sixth form, Social Secretary of the Psychology Society at university and completing three extra-curricular award programs. As for my High School Qualifications, I left WHSG in 2012 with 3 A Levels (English Literature, Law & Psychology), 3 AS levels (History, General Studies & Extended Project) and 14 GCSE's (A*-C- highest grade of the year group in Health & Social Care). As a result of studying essay based subjects and completing a degree, I am meticulous, organised and most importantly passionate about learning, an enthusiasm I hope to encourage in others.
I have had a strong interest in teaching from a young age and so have sought teaching experience where possible. This kick started with my Year 10 work experience in a Reception class of a local primary school, assisting for a period of 2 weeks. Then in Years 12 and 13, during free periods I assisted a Year 5 class teacher with various activities but with an emphasis on improving Reading abilities. Throughout my degree I have also embarked on a number of teaching roles. Firstly, in my first year I partook in a program called Tomorrow's Teachers and assisted with a Year 2 class for 1 week after completing necessary training sessions bringing me up to date with the curriculum, current thought and safeguarding and protecting regulations. As a result of this experience I have had an enhanced DBS check and still have the certificate. As well as this, I worked as a Student Ambassador for 3 years which allowed me to work with both primary and secondary school children on Higher Education promotion days working in groups or on a one-to-one basis in goal setting activities, breaking down barriers activities and GCSE masterclasses. Outside of university, I worked for an enterprise company called Maths Magic, leading an after school Maths club that aimed to teach KS1/KS2 children using fun and interactive games. Finally, for the past two summers, I have worked as an Au pair in Italy, totalling 16 weeks, teaching English to Italian adults and children alike, in a home environment and also outside this, in a summer school.
In sum, I have an abundance of teaching experience, despite my age, both conventional and unconventional and I hope this makes me a worthwhile and unique candidate to tutor those in need in the subjects I offer.
Having a degree in Psychology and various formal and informal teaching experience will allow me to tailor my tutoring sessions to the individual based on their needs and so after the initial session, each following session will be tailored accordingly: in accordance with the curriculum, current educational thought and using memory enhancing techniques.
The subjects I offer tutoring for are ones I thoroughly enjoyed myself and am passionate about and I feel this is the best way to teach. I aim to discover what the individual requires from the sessions, taking the subject away from the classroom and exploring it in a way that is befitting and relevant. I wish to inspire students, enthusing and instilling them with the confidence and motivation necessary for their success. I love to exceed expectations and so this is how I will approach tutoring, going the extra mile. For instance, finding and suggesting relevant books and reading materials to supplement students work.
