Hello, my name is Amy. I’m a primary school teacher and Lower School Progress Lead near Salisbury, living in Gillingham. I live alone, with my dog and enjoy spending my weekends and spare time walking with him in places including the beach, forests and gardens. I enjoy fitness and have a very active, enthusiastic look on life. I became a teacher because I simply love interacting with children and feel such a thrill when they learn and achieve. Seeing a child grow and develop is the most rewarding feeling one could experience.
I taught in a private pre-prep in Dorset as an unqualified teacher and trained in 2 mainstream primary schools during my PGCE year. I currently teach Year 3 but have experience from Foundation stage to Y6. I am able to offer support and extra teaching in the run up to Year 6 SATs. Text books and worksheets can be made readily available as well as teaching exam techniques to calm nervous pupils.
I teach a broad curriculum including maths, English, science, history, geography, sports and fitness, and I am a mentor for children in years 3-8.
I have access to a huge range of resources online and paper based which can be modelled and adapted to suit the needs of each child.
I differentiate my lessons to suit each individual pupil. I try to get to know my pupils as quickly as possible to find out their interests and I believe that a positive and enthusiastic approach is important. I set clear boundaries and targets but lessons can very quickly be adapted to suit the child’s needs. From my experience with working one to one with children, I know that they grow in confidence and have the opportunity to learn at their own pace.
Children learn when they are having fun and where possible this is combined into my planning, however, I am passionate about encouraging children to succeed so in the case of exams, I am very focussed on getting them to where they need to be.
