I am an enthusiastic and dedicated tutor with a wide-ranging experience of teaching in various cultures and contexts and pupils of different age groups. I have excellent communication skills and am very adaptable: I really enjoy working with individuals and coming up with engaging lessons that meet their needs, interests and learning styles in order to help them reach their individual targets.
I am an experienced teacher of history and English who has taught in many contexts. As well as working as a classroom teacher in schools, I am a private tutor who works on a one-to-one basis both in schools, coaching pupils who are needing extra help in English or history and those that need extra pushing; and tutoring pupils privately in their homes. I am able to teach students ranging from 7 years to adult and have sucessfully helped pupils with many different skills, ranging from help with spelling and phonics to coaching pupils for GCSE exams. In addition I co-run a business, running classes and tutoring children that are homeschooled, in which I have identified pupils' needs and tailored resources accordingly.
I am very good at adapting to the needs of particular students and will always begin lessons with a discussion with students and/or their parents and with activities to assess the level and needs of a pupil. As well as aiming to find out about the weaknesses of a student, I also aim to discover their strengths and preferred learning styles so that my lessons will be engaging and will be built around the way in which the invidual student best works. Throughout my sessions, I encourage students to reflect on their learning so that they can find out how they learn and transfer the skills into learning that takes place outside of my lesson.
