Personal Description:

I was educated at an independent school where I was deputy head girl in my final year (2007). I went on to study English Literature at The University of Leeds, where I gained my undergraduate degree. In 2011 I began a two year vocational actor's training at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Since graduating from LAMDA I have worked successfully in regional theatre, the West End and on international tours.
I am passionate about Literature, History and Drama, and confident in my ability to help others in these areas.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored in all GCSE and A-Level English exam boards, specialising in essay writing and exam technique. i have experience in KS3, helping to boost confidence with comprehension, creative writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar. I also offer coaching in speech and drama, with particular focus on the LAMDA examinations.
In my first year as a tutor one of my GCSE students achieved A* grades in both her History and English Literature exams, with full marks in her Cold War paper. I was particularly pleased as when we began lessons together she was under confident in this area. I have continued to see students surpass their expected grades each year.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is based on understanding, encouragement and helping young adults gain confidence in areas they struggle with. This is achieved through manageable tasks that are appropriate to the student's ability and curriculum. I understand the specific skills needed for sitting exams and writing essays, and feel confident in my ability to help students through this, sometimes stressful, process. I have a genuine love of the areas I teach and share this with my students in order to expand their appreciation of Literature, Modern History and Theatre Studies. I understand that in today's classrooms there isn't always time for open discussion and development of ideas- a vital skill for exam success and higher education. My lessons give students a chance to ask those questions and address gaps in their knowledge without embarrassment.
