Hi! I am a 18 year old gap year student (who will be attending the University of Edinburgh for History in 2022).
I am looking to help children grasp key concepts and skills in History, Biology and English for junior school pupils and up to GCSE level.
I live in Wimbledon, but I would be happy to travel to your house within a reasonable distance.
I attended Wimbledon High School for my entire schooling career and achieved a predicted A* A* A in my A-level exams. At IGCSE level I achieved grade 9 and A* in English literature and language, A* in History and a 9 in Biology. I also would be able to tutor maths to primary school children (I achieved A* GCSE maths).
I have tutored reading, comprehension, creative writing and spelling to primary age children before during my volunteering work at school. I have also helped younger children with maths skills and Kumon booklets.
For English the books I studied at school were: Jane Eyre, Mrs Dalloway and Hamlet. In history I studied the USA, Cold War, the British Empire, Hungarian revolution and Nazi Germany.
I am not available to teach verbal or non verbal reasoning for entrance exams.
My school would also be happy to provide any information/reference on me if necessary.
I believe I am friendly, reliable, patient and approachable. I completely understand that many students take longer to understand concepts fully. I would also tend to use past paper questions to consolidate knowledge as I believe these are key to exam success! I can also help making History timelines, Biology notes or mindmaps as revision tools (as I know many students find these learning strategies useful).
I am also very adaptable, and I have previously volunteered at Perseid School for autistic children.
It would be very helpful to know exactly what the student wants from my lesson to ensure I can definitely help them. As someone who has just sat my exams, I know firsthand how challenging learning new ideas and how important it is to be patient and allow the student to ask as many questions as they need to feel confident in the subject.
