My teaching experience has been predominantly with 'A' Level sixth form students teaching English Literature and English Language and the combined English Language and Literature course. However, I have also been teaching GCSE students for the last 5 years and guiding them through the new specifications since they started 2 years ago.
I have been teaching for 12 years in secondary schools and sixth form college. I was responsible for coordinating the GCSE and A Level curriculum and have extensive experience with specifications from a range of exam boards.
I have also worked as an examiner and coursework moderator for several years.
My style is professional but informal. I want to build confidence, maximise potential and really help students to achieve success in both language and literature.
I'm extremely enthusiastic about the books, plays and poems I teach. While it's true that we can't enjoy everything we read, (and why would we?), there are always interesting ideas to explore and inspiration we can draw from the texts.
I help students to focus on the aims and objectives demanded by the syllabus, whether it's for the examination or coursework. Good study habits, independent learning and effective organisation are crucial to success and these are the elements of my teaching I concentrate on.
