Amanda

Hi, I'm Amanda. I am a mum of 4 children, who are now grown up. I have a passion for teaching French and I love my job! I teach part-time in a primary school, run after school French clubs for children of various ages and have recently begun to teach adults too. I lived in France for a year as part of my university degree, teaching English to French children and go back there often.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching French in the primary sector for 27 years and tutoring GCSE French alongside this since 2004. I tutor pupils from several local high schools and all children have achieved or improved upon their target grades set by the school. Many of the children have received French awards from their schools or achieved the highest grade for French in their school. I have taught GCSE using the AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE syllabi. I am open to the idea of online tutoring, although I haven't done this thus far and prefer one to one face to face tutoring.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that the key to success in language learning is to build the student's confidence. Once they have the confidence, they will participate more in school lessons and their confidence will grow further. I feel I am approachable and encourage the pupil to ask questions for anything they don't understand so that they can gain a greater understanding of grammar points and phonics as well as improve the obvious skills of speaking, listening and understanding, reading and writing. I also believe that it is important to find the right style of teaching for the individual so that they can achieve their best grade. Sometimes it is the little things that can help someone to remember a word, a spelling or to have the strategies to work out meaning in context. I charge £25 per hour for tutoring in my home. A further fee would be added if needing to travel.
