I am a cheerful and engaging tutor who loves all things English. I have three sons who are away studying. I also have two delightful grandsons who bring me much happiness because they are so funny! I’m just finishing off my dissertation for a Masters in English Literary Studies. My preferred area is Irish Literature and in particular women’s short stories. I love reading and play the piano for pleasure.I’m an avid film buff too, and like nothing better to while away the time in the darkness at the cinema. I also love fashion and if I had more money I would have the worlds biggest wardrobe! At the moment I’m looking forward to a warm holiday after a very long but rewarding year of GCSE’s with year 11’s!
I have extensive experience of tuition. I have taught in a number of different establishments ranging from a mosque to a public school, state schools to language schools, children’s homes and with those who are home schooled. This has meant that I have had to adapt my skills to wide variety of expectations. I have had to be mindful of cross cultural expectations, as well as multiple different needs that have prevented some children from being in school, either as a result of illness or exclusion. Whatever the task in my mind it is the student and their wellbeing that comes first, followed by hopefully more success in the field of English.
My tuition isn’t an end in itself. I approach it and view it as a joint effort between myself, the teacher, the parent, the child and any other person involved with the student’s study. I pride myself on being motivational, and because I have had students from many diverse backgrounds and it is through these experiences that I feel able to focus my teaching in a certain specific way, depending on the needs of the individual. I like to use a range of ways of learning, as we all learn differently. This can be facilitated through talking, to listening, to visual aids, interactive sources and so on. I like to gain a rapport between myself and my students-as my time with them affords them the opportunity to ask questions that they may not understand in a classroom environment -whereas one to one is hopefully not so intimidating!
