I believe that learning should be fun and relevant. I want students to feel happy to learn and excited by their achievements. If pupils see learning as an obstacle and a challenge they won't feel confident to approach a problem using their own thoughts and ideas. I believe my role as a teacher is to encourage students to love learning and help them to see the benefits of hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication.
I have been teaching and tutoring for 6 years. I spent the first 3 years tutoring in the state sector and have recently left a teaching position at a private prep school. I have taught pupils from ages 7-19 and have experience tutoring for GCSEs, A Levels, Common Entrance, and 11 Plus exams.
I tutor using a variety of methods dependent on the pupil I am working with. Every student is individual and drives their learning in a particular way. If a pupil feels discouraged by the conventional methods of classroom teaching, it is important to open up other avenues of learning that feel personal to them. If a pupil can connect with a particular method in a one-to-one session, then they can be encouraged to take that strategy of learning into the classroom in order to ease their learning at school.
