Information About Alma - Tower Hamlets tutor
I am passionate about words, language and creativity; my past students have said I am inspirational! I trained as a teacher after a 12 year acting career and I still do some acting, the occasional performance as a Storyteller and also train people in how to be storytellers I love to read… novels, poems, newspapers, magazines, articles and I have a wide vocabulary. I inspire my students to become collectors of words too!! I have 3 sons, the younges is now 16 and in 6th Form, and Ihave helped them all with their English exams. Only one has taken after me with his love of words and now he speaks fluent Norwegian, Spanish and writes.
I trained as a teacher 19 years ago and have taught Drama, English, Religious Studies, Citizenship & PHSE. Most of my teaching experiences was in one South London school and I have not taught outside of London at all. I have trained in Mentoring & providing for Gifted & Talented students. I left full time teaching in 2007 as my youngest son was severely asthmatic for several years. I have trained in Tutoring with the London Borough of Newham and have been taking part in the Government Initiative to provide 1:1 teaching in Secondary Schools to raise attainment for the past two years.
Tailoring lessons around my students' interests, I tackle areas where they are experiencing difficulty with imaginative activities, games & discussion as well as practical exercises to create a successful, individual pathway for learning. I believe that all children can succeed and reach their full potential. I have a superb track record of helping children progress and move up their sub-levels in KS3 and improve their grades at GCSE and A Level. I aim to inspire in them a love of the English language and give them the tools, skills & confidence to succeed. Children enjoy working with me and quickly gain confidence in their ability as writers and readers. Their improvements in English lead to improvements in other areas of the curriculum and prepare them for adult life where literacy, clarity of communication and facility with language are vital skills for the 21st century.
