Personal Description:

I am an experienced primary teacher and successful tutor with 13 years experience in the classroom. I have a B.A. in Psychology (U.S Liberal Arts degree) and a Masters in the Anthropology of Children and Child Development (Brunel University). I attained my teaching qualification (QTS) in 2002 and have spent 13 years as a primary teacher in a local 'outstanding' school and I am currently teaching part-time, as such, I have an in-depth knowledge of the primary curriculum and a great wealth of experience about children and how they learn. I also have a CELTA (TEFL) certificate March 2015.

I did take a break from tutoring for the summer to do some EFL work (as Julia's reference mentions) but I am now back in Newark full-time.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 13 years teaching in a local 'outstanding' primary school during which time I taught all year groups from Reception to Year six. I am currently teaching part-time as well as teaching booster groups for SATS so have an up-to-date knowledge of the current curriculum and new SATS. My CELTA qualification also means I am in a unique position to teach the new grammar components of the English curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to boost children's confidence and give them the tools to unlock their own learning potential. Initial assessment is vital to uncover gaps and misconceptions which may hinder progress. Children need to enjoy learning and my job is to make it as enjoyable as I can, whilst inspiring the child themselves to want to do better and achieve. Each child is unique and learns differently; at different rates and in different ways- my aim is to find the most effective methods for your child to achieve his or her potential, enjoying the process along the way,
