I am an experienced Primary teacher and successful tutor with 11+ years experience in the classroom and 5+ years private tutoring. My years as a primary teacher in an 'outstanding' 'Leader' school mean I have an in-depth knowledge of the primary curriculum and a great wealth of experience about children and how they learn.

I am a dedicated, professional tutor, (not a university student, tutoring to earn some extra money on the side) as such, I am able to provide not only subject knowledge but effective, age-appropriate teaching methods, in addition to continuity and long term committment to your child's education.

I have a B.A. in Psychology (U.S Liberal Arts degree) and a Masters in the Anthropology of Children and Child Development (Brunel University).
I also have a CELTA (TEFL) certificate and have taught EFL part-time as well as being a qualified yoga teacher.
I have recently moved to Edinburgh from England and am now here living here permanently.

Tutoring Experience

I have 11+ years teaching experience in an 'outstanding' primary school during which time I taught all year groups from P1- P7 (Reception to Year six). I have also run booster groups for children who are under-performing within school. In addition, I have also worked as a Maths SATS marker. My CELTA qualification also means I am in a unique position to teach the new grammar components of the English curriculum, which may be useful if you are moving form the Scottish to English system.
I have also worked in a tuition centre in Edinburgh so I am familiar with 'tried and tested' methods and resources that lead to success as well as recognising that 1-2-1 individually tailored lessons are far more effective in progressing children's confidence and learning than a mixed age group computer-based 'lesson'.
I also have a wide range of my own resources catering for all learning styles and covering both the Scottish and English curriculum, as well as for Independent prep.

Tutoring Approach

My aim is to boost children's confidence and give them the tools to unlock their own learning potential. Initial assessment is vital to uncover gaps and misconceptions which may hinder progress. Children need to enjoy learning and my job is to make it as enjoyable as I can, whilst inspiring the child themselves to want to do better and achieve. Each child is unique and learns differently; at different rates and in different ways- my aim is to find the most effective methods for your child to achieve his or her potential, enjoying the process along the way,
In addition to weekly sessions in term time, I also offer school holiday 'booster' courses for an additional 'kickstart' and to consolidate previous learning. These sessions also work to prevent the 'Learning dip' that often occurs during longer school breaks. I may be able to travel for these sessions, depending on the location, although there would be an additional cost involved.

Please note the rate quoted is per session, which is usually 55 minutes (to allow for 5 minutes feedback to parents/carers at the end of the session). Sessions for younger children will generally be a maximim of 45 minutes as they cannot usually concentrate for much longer - especially after a long day at school!
