Hello! I am a friendly and approachable Oxford graduate, currently working as an economist in the civil service. I teach economics and philosophy in my spare time. I tutor because I love these subjects, and I want to pass on what I have learned.

I have a strong academic record, and have developed many useful study skills during my time at different universities. I studied History and Philosophy at the University of Sydney, before completing a bachelors in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Sydney. I am, of course, continuing my economic education through work!

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored intermittently during my time at university.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching is based on a combination of curiosity and rigour. I encourage my students to find the aspects of the subject they find interesting - even when they don't think those aspects exist. I am happy to work on study and exam techniques, and to help students see how their exams relate to their learning. I am also happy to work on writing skills for economics and philosophy - often very bright students let themselves down because they are not writing confidently and appropriately.

My tutorials are semi-structured discussions. I work with students to develop a 'learning plan' that is based on their interests and learning needs. The tutorials themselves will focus on one topic (or several topics, depending!) and will be based on in-depth discussion that challenges the student to think for themselves. This means that students gain a rigorous understanding of the subject without ever having to listen to be lecture on.

Economics and philosophy are different subjects, and I do approach them differently. My economics tutorials are based on a detailed understanding of economic principles, not on technical details. I find that the technical details are much easier to learn when you're comfortable with the principles. My philosophy tutorials focus on developing robust argument techniques and 'thinking outside the box' - not rehashing established philosophical debates.

Learning shouldn't be daunting. I am happy to work with students in whichever way they find works for them. If you want tuition but think you need a different approach, please get in touch and we can work together.

I am happy to work with my students to
