Personal Description:

Following 5 years at Wells Cathedral Music School, I embarked on a Fine Art BA at Central Saint Martins from which I graduated with a First Class Honours. Specialising in cross-dimensional sculpture and installation I incorporate music into my art practice via performative works and avant-garde improvisation opportunities. Throughout my studies at university I have also continued my classical playing through gigs and private tutoring.

Having begun to learn the flute aged 6 with my grandfather, a peripatetic teacher at Eton, I went on to gain a government funded scholarship to Wells Cathedral School, one of the five specialist music schools in the UK. Here I studied under Lisa Nelson and Dr Kevin Murphy, participating in numerous performance opportunities from baroque ensembles and wind bands to solo work and symphony orchestras. I have played nationally and internationally at a young age with the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain and later on in my career with Young Sinfonia (based at the Sage Gateshead) and the Wells Cathedral Symphony Orchestra. Orchestrally I specialise in piccolo playing, and my solo work has focussed on contemporary composition from 1920 onwards.

I am well versed in the ABRSM grade structure, including all aspects of the examinations and also teach Music Theory. I have a particular interest in the pedagogic aspect of music and this overlaps into my art practice where I facilitate events and workshops that focus on fearless performing and mastering the mental process of presenting to an audience.

Tutoring Experience:

Private Tutoring / Workshop Facilitation / Music Ensemble Leader

Tutoring Approach:

Experienced practitioner and performer on flute and piccolo. I teach all levels and ages from absolute beginner to those working towards their Grade 8 and beyond. Together we will follow engaging and fun lesson plans with clear aims for learning and development each week. I teach from home where we have access to a piano and a library of music from which to build your repertoire.

I specialise in taking pupils through the ABRSM Grade structure and teach all the requirements for the examinations (aural, sight-reading, scales and arpeggios etc). I am also available for Music Theory tutoring to help pupils pass that all important Grade 5 Theory exam.

I have instruments available for short-term loan if you are a beginner and not sure whether to invest just yet.
