I am a full time maths teacher working in a South London school. I teach Maths to11 to 16 (KS3, KS4) and A-level (including further maths) and in addition to this I am an examiner for Edexcel marking A-level scripts and I also act as a mentor for the UKMT (UK maths trust). I received my maths degree at Kings College London in 2007 and masters in Business Economics and Finance at University of Surrey in 2009. I have tutored students privately for over 9 years with great success. I have tutored all levels of students from those aiming for a C grade at GCSE to those who have gone on to study at Oxbridge.
I am an experienced qualified Mathematics teacher, I have been with my current employer for six years and I also offer Maths tuitions on side. I have always had a strong interest in Maths as a subject and that combined with a passion for teaching and learning has been an excellent basis on which to build my career as a Maths teacher. I have excelled during my teaching career, I have demonstrated my hard work and determination by producing 100% success in the GCSE Maths and Statistics exams over last six academic year. When I started teaching for my current schooll, there were only 20% A –A* grades in GCSE Maths and since then A-A* grades have moved up to 50%. For academic year 2014-2015, 50% pupils achieved A*-A grades in GCSE Maths. My creative and innovative approach to teaching is evidenced by the use of various teaching tools for example power point slides, my maths software, maths watch software and other very useful teaching resources. I am a hardworking and reliable individual with a willingness to learn. I have qualified as a Maths teacher via Assessment Only Route at University of Gloucestershire. I decided to follow this route to qualified teacher status as I managed to get more hands on experience as compared with traditional route to teaching. I have always had a strong interest in Maths as a subject and having enjoyed it at university level, I found I have a natural talent in teaching it as a subject. My Master’s degree has given me a useful insight into business and finance skills that I have been able to use as I have developed as a teacher. It has also given me a thorough grounding in modern finance theory and also on how to apply econometric techniques to financial data. I successfully met all teaching standards and passed my teacher training qualification with good to outstanding on lesson observations. My particular strengths included differentiation, formative and summative assessments and positive relationships with pupils.
Initially, I assess pupils’ Current Grade and level and build their confidence by working on topics tailored to their needs. I also demonstrate step-by-step solution of several examples on a particular topic. I identify the weak areas to my students and help them master the fundamental concepts and problem solving in those topics to get high grades in their exams. I can provide materials and practise papers needed for the modules. And finally, always aim to make mathematics as fun and enjoyable for my students as it is for me.
