This is how 3 referees rated Alexandra:
I am currently in my sixteenth year as a mathematics teacher. Throughout my career in education, my aim has been to improve student performance by improving the quality of their learning experience. Furthermore, I am a firm believer that the most significant influence upon student attainment is the teacher.
I teach mathematics up to A-level/Statistics which I thoroughly enjoy. I employ a range of methods in order to help students make links between the various areas of the curriculum, as well as guiding them through more and more sophisticated concepts and activities. I use problem solving and investigations as ways of differentiating tasks to meet learner needs in a variety of areas. This has resulted in more and more pupils experiencing success in mathematics and has helped to raise learner motivation.
Allowing tutees to work individually has helped to explore, to formulate and to question ideas as well to develop their own powers of deductive reasoning. However, in order to accomplish this successfully, the learners need to feel that they are working in a challenging yet non- threatening environment.
