I'm a graduate of Durham University, where I studied English Literature and gained a 2.1. In addition to English Lit, I am involved in songwriting and music production. Currently, I am studying for an MA in Sound Production at Bath Spa University.
I have coached at Cobham Fencing Club, supporting foilists at the British Youth Championships and other tournaments.
I have learned excellent teachers, such as fencing coach Ziemek Wojciechowski. From Ziemek, I learned that is ideal training should be flow-like, in that it shouldn’t be so challenging as to have a stalling effect or so easy as to allow the student to become bored or lose focus.
I have taught music and acoustic guitar, which has helped me to develop my skillset in creating frameworks for learning new ideas and skills most effectively. Students have found it useful when I have explained ideas using memorable images. Diatonic intervals, for instance, can be drawn in a circle and then, as the circle is rotated (and the root note changes), it becomes clear how 'the modes’ work.
I am particularly strong on strategy and planning, which allows my students and I to get to grips with modules, authors, and essays in a very efficient and effective way. My style of teaching is therefore very much developing the skills for tackling tough questions and structuring discussions.
A strength of mine is communicating key ideas in way that allows students to really take the best approach to their exams and essays.
I offer a free 30 minute consultation prior to tuition sessions, in which we can discuss your goals and the texts you are covering.
