I love teaching but I really enjoy working one-to-one with a student, as they can make so much progress when given individual attention. I am used to working with students from Year 5 to Year 13.
I am currently not teaching in a school as I am home with my son, so am tutoring only, which is great!
I have been teaching for five years and my last job was as an English teacher at a high achieving school . I am therefore used to preparing students for exams, teaching new topics, reviewing and revising. I have experience in both the AQA and Edexcel specifications and I have extensive knowledge of all the GCSE set texts and mark schemes. I was also an AQA GCSE Examiner.
am used to teaching both high achievers who want to make the leap from A to A* and also the students who struggle in lessons and need some extra help and attention.
I have been tutoring for the last seven years and have taught mainly Year 11 students wanting to improve their grades. However, I have also tutored a Year 9 boy for general skills improvement and a Year 6 girl for entrance exams. All my Year 11 girls have either achieved or exceeded their predicted grades. The one I was most proud of, however, was one who went from hardly any coursework done to A*, within six weeks of beginning tutoring.
I approach tutoring by assessing what my tutees know already, what they most need help with and the best way they work. If in Year 11, I find out what they are confident with, what they need help with, their understanding of the exam paper and the mark schemes. I would work at the tutees' own pace, while challenging them to go further than they thought they could. I know how to explain something at a student's level of understanding and also to adapt my explanations and teaching methods if they don't work for a particular pupil.
