Recently retired and returned to the UK after more than twenty years spent working in British International schools in Saudi Arabia.
Having graduated with a B Ed (Hons) in the UK, I moved into teaching internationally in 1994. Since then, I have taught several IGCSE, IB and AP courses at three schools in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. During that time I was Head of Department for Computing, developed a Moodle VLE to support our students and managed the school's website.
In ICT, I have strengths in teaching database, spreadsheet, web-authoring and word-processing software. I have a passionate dislike for anything related to presentations. But will still teach their use well. At a stretch…
My strengths lie in the more 'technical' aspects of programming using several languages and have taught IGCSE Computer Studies and Computer Science and the American AP program. I have also enjoyed teaching the IB Computer Science course to some highly-motivated students.
My belief is that the key to ICT and Computer Science success is through developing understanding through Logical and Computational Thinking. A student will only achieve a real grasp of developing computational skills by analysis of the needs, then the creation of a solution through creative thinking and the use of an appropriate language.
