Hi, my name is Alex. I am an experienced and fully qualified teacher of science. I graduated from Bristol University in 2011 with a BSc in geoscience. After graduating I spent some time conducting post-graduate research at Bristol before working in industry. I have just completed the Removed program where I taught in a secondary school for 2 years and also tutored several pupils privately.
Whilst at Bristol university I used to teach second year undergraduates thermodynamics. More recently, I have covered GCSE science from the ages of 11-16. I taught a number of classes of varying ability, where the gifted pupils needed additional challenge and SEN students needed bespoke strategies to achieve their potential. I am happy to teach up to A-level for biology, chemistry, environmental science and geology.
I believe the ultimate aim of tutoring is to develop students into auto-didactic learners. I aim to give the students the strategies and skills they need for successful independent learning. Many students are focused on their attainment in an upcoming exam and this requires significant focus on past exam papers and exam technique. Typically, I would cover more subject knowledge in earlier lessons and over time would transition to an exam practice focus.
