Hi there, I am Aled Evans. I am a recent mathematics graduate from Swansea University. I have since returned to Aberystwyth where I studied previously for my A-Levels at Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig (welsh medium school, though not taught maths through the medium of welsh). I am fluent in welsh and can teach in welsh at a basic level.
Mathematics as a subject has held my interest along with sciences for as long as I can remember. Although I am lucky in that I am naturally mathematically competent this does not hinder my ability to understand others difficulties with the subject.
My interests outside of my studies include Rugby, Cycling and Cooking (although not at the same time).
In my first year of university I casually taught several tutees at GCSE and A-level, however discontinued in order to concentrate more on my degree. Being at university we were expected to cooperate on most weekly assignments and sometimes larger projects. From a tutoring perspective, I understand what is it like to be in both shoes and to work pro actively with another individual, regardless of the level of experience.
I am aware that people take to concepts at different rates and I am looking to teach both pupils who are finding difficulties with their work (looking to get a passing grade) and those wishing to push themselves further to fulfil their maximum potential.
To establish the correct learning style of the pupil is paramount and therefore my aim to begin with would be to take time to discuss with, pupil and parent, what problems they've encountered and what areas need attention. After this meetings occur as frequently as dictated by the needs of the tutee. In terms of content I heavily favour following the school curriculum as examination boards can be very specific about their approach to mathematics. My tutoring will focus strongly on monitoring progress made both inside and outside of school as well as reinforcing material being taught in classes.
