Personal Description:

I have just started my first year at Imperial College London, reading for a masters in mechanical engineering. Before starting my studies at Imperial College, I spent the last 11 years studying at the Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, a highly selective private school in Elstree, North London. It was at Haberdashers where my passion for the sciences and maths really took hold, and has now lead me to one of the top engineering universities in the world.

I took 4 A2 and AS levels, achieving an A* in Maths and an A* in Further Maths, alongside A's in Physics and Chemistry. Prior to this I took 10 GCSEs, earning 9 A*s in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Language, English Literature, Design & Technology, Geography and Spanish, and an A in Latin.

Tutoring Experience:

Over the last 3 years at my school, I was asked by my teachers and other members of staff to help tutor either my fellow pupils, or more commonly pupils that were struggling in younger years. It was a very rewarding challenge, and one I would like to continue with at university.
While this means this is my first foray into professional tutoring, I am very excited to use this opportunity as a springboard, as I hope to one day go into teaching as a career.

Tutoring Approach:

Having been to a rigorous school for the past 11 years, I have been on the receiving end of countless approaches to teaching. What I however find to be the most useful, especially within maths and the sciences, is to practice with questions from outside the syllabus, before preparation with past papers. It is possible for anyone to learn answers by wrote relatively quickly, however I find that enjoying the subject helps amazingly with learning, and the best way to enjoy a subject is to understand it. Rather than teaching answers to endless textbook questions, it is far more useful for a pupil to learn how to apply their knowledge in an unfamiliar scenario, so that when exam season does roll around, the exam questions will be comparatively easy.
