I have a degree and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde. My Ph.D. was in mathematical physics. In addition to working in the financial sector, I have spent over ten years teaching in universities across the UK.
Please note that university level tutoring starts at £35 per hour, and could rise to £50 per hour, depending on the level.
I have fifteen years experience of lecturing and tutoring in higher education (University of Strathclyde, University of the West of Scotland and University of South Wales) as well as a number of years of private tutoring school-level and undergraduate-level mathematics. I am able to tutor any mathematics and statistics school-level material, although my preference is for mathematics. I can also tutor most undergraduate-level mathematics up to and including Honours Year level. At this level, my strengths lie in calculus, mechanics and numerical analysis based subjects.
I feel that mathematics is best learned by example. Hence, I often go over a piece of theory, do some examples, and then ask the student do a few examples on their own while I oversee their work, correcting errors and malformed ideas where appropriate. Assessing the student at that point, I will either push on with harder examples (if the student has picked up the material), or try to explain further the concepts (if the student is still struggling). For school-level material; I will then set a few questions for the student to try over the course of the week/fortnight.
I also do work in personal development and I use the ideas and techniques in that work to help me understand my students' needs and address my tutoring style accordingly.
