Personal Description:

I am a 24 year old graduate from University College London (UCL), where I graduated from the Arts and Science BASc with a First Class Honours, majoring in Architecture and minoring in Mechanical Engineering with Arabic language. I then went on to complete my post-graduate education in Building and Urban Design in Development MSc at the Bartlett Development Planning Unit in UCL, where I graduated with a Distinction. I am currently the founder of RESOLVE, an interdisciplinary design collective that combines art, architecture, engineering and technology to address social challenges, exhibiting work in the London Design Festival 2016, the Stockwell Festival 2017, and having been shortlisted for the Greater London Authority's Loughborough Junction Arches Competition 2017 and the Brixton Design Trail's Brixton Bridge Competition 2017.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a Maths tutor for five years now, winning a UCL Engineering Engagement 2017 award for Tutor of the Year. Some of my students have received scholarships to prestigious secondary schools such as Dulwich College, whilst others have greatly improved in their attainment but also attitudes towards Maths. I have taught in various tutoring programmes from Generating Genius to the University College London Widening Participation Programmes, and have also taught in multiple STEM Ambassadorship roles. During my academic year in 2013, I was also selected as personal tutor and programme mentor for the design module at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. In addition to these accolades I have sought to use my skills and experience in teaching in many wider contexts, having taught maths and english to refugee children at the L'Ecole Laique du Chemin des Dunes in Calais and leading workshops on engineering and design for my own company RESOLVE.

In the summer of 2014 I was employed as a student ambassador across 3 separate Widening Participation Programmes at UCL, targeted at children from disadvantaged backgrounds, leading groups of up to 11 throughout full day schedules of workshops, lectures and museum visits. These age groups varied from Year to Year 11.
In 2014, alongside academic tutoring I worked as a team leader for Open Air Fit, leading groups of up to 30 children across a range of fun physical activities during summer camps and birthday parties.
During 2013 in my academic year, I was selected as personal tutor and programme mentor for the design module at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL that is offered to first year students on my course at the BASc, UCL.
In 2012 I worked as a tutor on the Generating Genius scheme, that aims to help talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I worked for the course of the Generating Genius programme at St Columba's Catholic Boys School in Bexleyheath. It was an eye opening experience that led to various other opportunities working with pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In 2011 I tutored an AS Level maths student who passed went from failing her classes to passing her AS Levels with an A Grade in the retake of her C1 Paper.

Tutoring Approach:

Having spent the vast majority of my career in institutional education also teaching and tutoring, I have an innate understanding of the importance of independent study and one to one learning. Education is a process that requires a personable approach, through which students can re-imagine themselves positively as capable, bright young minds, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds and the daily challenges that face them. As such, I aim to be very approachable, personalising each tutee's lesson and attainment-curve, whilst ubiquitously showing that Mathematics can also be an intensely enjoyable and rewarding subject.
