I'm a 29-year-old full-time English tutor from Glasgow with experience in teaching secondary school pupils and adult learners.
I have been tutoring Higher and National 5 English four years (with a 100% pass rate), putting to use my 2:1 honours degree in English and Creative Writing and my Masters in Multimedia Journalism.
Through studying and from working as a journalist for three years I have developed a strong passion for the English language and how it is used. We can never read too much, with every text having the potential of creating new thoughts and ideas.
I have been tutoring for three years with a 100% pass rate and recently left my journalism job to make it a full-time career.
At university - both undergraduate and postgraduate - I worked as an editor on student newspapers where I helped train contributors in writing, providing full, in-depth feedback on all their work.
I also taught English as a foreign language to a class of 40 teenagers at a school in Malawi for two months in 2007.
I tailor an individual work programme for each student, depending on their strengths, weaknesses and the work assigned to them by their teacher or lecturer. This ensures the time spent with me goes towards improving the areas they are having difficulty with.
I assign homework tasks and mark these with the students, giving full feedback, both verbal and written, to help them progress.
However, learning still has to be fun and I strive to make sure my students enjoy their sessions, which in turn increases their ability to remember what they have covered in lessons. I love English literature, and I hope to encourage others to love it too.

We selected Aimee mainly because of her excellent feedback notes
Aimee very quickly put J at ease and he enjoyed his lessons with her
Aimee not only spent lesson time with but also set him homework tasks
She also added in extra sessions at our requests at different times of the week
We would have no hesitation in recommending Aimee to anyone looking for a tutor
I had been suffering bad fatigue, which I thought was temporary, but upon finding out it was a symptom of a long-term illness, I decided it would be best not to commit to tutoring your daughter as I was worried it would be too much for me to take on with my current illness. I didn't want to take on a fourth student to find a few months down the line that I had taken on too much, therefore I let you know before tutoring commenced, so as not to waste your money or your daughter's time.
I could have started tutoring your daughter as planned - which would have been nice, extra income for me! - but thought it best if she found a suitable tutor who would be able to confidently commit to the full year. I let you know about my diagnosis as soon as I could, I did not tutor your daughter, you did not have to pay for any lessons from a tutor who could not commit, and I did offer a full refund of the money you paid to have my details released.
As soon as I received my diagnosis, I deactivated my First Tutors profile, and I won't be reactivating it until I am well enough to take on new students.
I hope you managed to find a suitable replacement.
