I am an Oxford graduate in English Language and Literature and have recently spent 25 years working as an editor on the arts desk of The Sunday Times newspaper. I have an all round understanding of the use of language and am well read.
After leaving Oxford I worked for a tutorial college teaching A Levels and A Level retakes. Recently I have in a more informal way tutored the children of family and friends who were taking entrance exams for secondary schools and GCSEs.
While I have various principles that I seek to convey - for example in how to structure a essay or compose an elegant sentence - I think the key thing about tutoring is to organise it around the personality and interests of the individual child. In a sense, I do bespoke tutoring.
