I'm a fully qualified English and Law teacher. I completed my Law degree at the University of Manchester, graduating with a 2.1 Honours degree before going on to do my teaching qualification, also at the University of Manchester. I am currently a teacher at a secondary school in Merseyside, having previously taught in Greater Manchester and Norway. I have a 100% pass rate, with my pupils achieving at or above their target grade.
I have tutored pupils in KS3, pupils sitting their GCSEs for the first time and pupils who are re-sitting.
I have excellent knowledge of the AQA and EDUQAS exam specification, having taught both at GCSE. I've also attended workshops with senior examiners so understand how pupils can achieve the best possible marks in both English Language and English Literature.
I primarily conduct tuition on the weekend but am happy to do some weekday evenings.
The needs of the pupils come first - I always begin by asking my pupils how confident they feel about the syllabus and what they believe to be their strengths and weaknesses. I then go through the content, focusing particularly on what my pupil is struggling with the most.
I believe that one of the best ways for pupils to learn is by studying the content and then applying it to exam-style questions under timed conditions. I ensure that my sessions are engaging and challenge my pupils, while building within them the confidence necessary to enjoy and succeed in the subject. Having taught the GCSE syllabus, I understand it very well. Although it can seem like a huge challenge, breaking down and understanding just what the questions are asking is very important and this is what helps to ensure that pupils can answer the questions to a high standard.
