I am a passionate teacher of Mathematics and Physical Education and have been a full-time tutor for5 years after teaching at a grammar school in Southend, Essex and have a great deal of enthusiasm about education. I have a Masters qualification in Education from the University of East Anglia, completing it over 4 years alongside my job. Before this, I graduated from the University of Essex (2:1) in Sports and Exercise Science. I am also a Mathematics examiner for the Edexcel exam board. Over the last 5 years as a GCSE PE teacher, I have achieved around 90% A*/A and at A-level 50% A*-A. Over the 5 years I have tutored students, I have achieved excellent results in 11+ examinations, GCSE Mathematics/Physical Education and A-level PE; alongside some excellent feedback from previous tutees.
I have a real love for both the subjects I teach and have had many positive comments made from pupils and parents alike. Teaching at a grammar school I know exactly what is needed to gain entry into a selective school and have given many group tutoring sessions at School in Mathematics to prospective pupils.
I trained in 2010-11 at the University of East Anglia (UEA) completing a PGCE in Physical Education. Since then I have worked at Westcliff High School for Boys, teaching both Mathematics and Physical Education for 6 years. I was also a head of year at the School and this is alongside my teaching duties.
I have now tutored for 3 years, across a range of different age groups (10 up to 18 years old) across Mathematics and PE with great success
In Physical Education I have achieved very high results both at GCSE (approx 85% A*/A across two cohorts) and AS/A2 Physical Education (A2 - 80% A*/A and AS 75% A grade) and have taught both for many years.
Being a teacher I am acutely aware of how teachers can drastically affect the experiences of pupils. I am very passionate about my subjects and expect the very best from my pupils. I particularly like to use a range of resources and materials within my teaching/tutoring and will not simply just teach using pen and paper.
Once tutees are familiar and can work with fundamental elements of the subject, I look to incorporate practice papers (11+/GCSE) to try and further develop the tutees answering ability.
I also look to use technology where possible, by communicating with tutees through Skype/Facetime and emails to further enhance their learning experience. I am very keen to set H/W and expect the tutees to complete this punctually.
