Penultimate year law student at the University of York, on track to achieve the highest grade in the cohort.
I began my legal studies at A-Level whilst studying at Peter Symonds College in Winchester. Following achieval of an A grade (93%) at AS Level, I went on to finish with an A* overall with 100% and 93% in Unit 4 and 3 assessments respectively. Based on this success and my passion for the subject, I decided to continue my legal studies into an undergraduate LLB Law course at the University of York.
In my first year (2016/17) I achieved 68% overall average, studying Public, Contract, Tort, Criminal and Property law as core modules, alongside Legal Skills, and Introduction to Law and Society. This academic year (2017/18) I have studied Employent, Family, Contract II, Tort II and Property II as core modules, alongside Advanced Legal Skills, and Professionalism and Ethics. I expect to achieve 70%+ (1st Class Honours) overall for these penultimate year studies.
On the conclusion of my degree, I intend to attain a training contract with a law firm based in the South East and eventually qualify as a solicitor in the specialisation of Employment or Family law. Long term, I would be interested in teaching law at either college or degree level. Alongside my studies, I currently work part time at John Lewis in York as a selling assistant.
During my second year of college (2014/15), I was involved in the Law workshops run during lunch breaks. Through these, I provided support to first year students that were struggling with understanding concepts, or wanted to consolidate their understanding. Further, my exam answers were utilised by the college as exemplar material for subsequent law students undertaking their Unit 3 and 4 exams.
More recently, the teaching methodology utilised at York Law School revolves primarily around feedback and research among small groups of 9-12 people. Within these, I am frequently required to provide guidance to other members of the group during feedback sessions.
My tutoring is largely based around the needs of the tutee. For example, if an individual has upcoming examinations and assessments, I am happy to provide specialised guidance for those circumstances. Alternatively, if a tutee is wanting general guidance on topic areas, I will support them in formulating a set of logical, coherent notes, however I feel learning in action through past exam questions tends to be most effective way of building knowledge.
I am available for Skype or one-on-one tutoring (as arranged), although I have no car so the distance I can travel is limited.
