I am a 31 year old Cambridge graduate, who has 6 years of teaching and tutoring experience of Economics (GCSE and A Level) and some A Level Business Management, GCSE Business Studies and GCSE Business/Economics (joint course).
I most enjoy teaching Economics, and am also an examiner, at a senior level, for Economics for a leading exam board.
I teach at a school just south of Manchester.
I am friendly and approachable, but expect students to take learning seriously - spoon feeding isn't what a good teacher does, and students should not expect to be spoon fed information. My role is to facilitate understanding by helping students unlock academic doors of understanding, and to appreciate the difficult content of Economics thereby.
From 2009-2013, I taught at an independent school in Cambridgeshire. I taught Economics, all boards.
From 2013-2015, I taught at a grammar school in Berkshire, primarily Edexcel. However, I tutored the whole range of other boards.
From 2015 to present I have taught at a school in Cheshire.
I have (senior) examining experience with a leading exam board, and understand exam technique well, and how successful students approach exams.
My level of understanding of Economics is up to date, and I like to challenge students with probing questions, helping students to digest material for themselves, rather than relying on spoon-feeding of content. This helps them to understand the subject much better.
My approach is Socratic in nature. I want students to be able to understand the subject matter and enjoy doing so. I ask students questions to enable them to think, and open the doors to successful subject content learning for themselves. I can show methods of how to understand graphs, formulae and so forth, but I like students to be able to think about the content first, and try to grapple with the rigours of this subject. Economics is also about a practical understanding of what is going on in the real world, therefore I ensure students are up to speed with the current state of the British and foreign economies, and the latest academic analysis of the subject.
I can offer Skype or face-to-face tutoring.
