Hi, I'm Abi! I am a 20 year old Psychology undergraduate in my third and final year at the University of Exeter. I am an extremely motivated person, at the beginning of my A levels I was predicted CCC and I knew I wanted to achieve better. Through a lot of hard work and determination I achieved three As instead and it was the most amazing feeling. Revision is key. Without revising, I wouldn't be at Exeter following my dreams.
Psychology is a great subject, as it is so vast and covers many different areas including social, individual, moral, clinical and biological psychology. My specialist subject is developmental psychology and once I graduate I hope to work for an Autism charity.
I am also a massive fan of history and it was my second favourite subject at school! I found it so fascinating learning about iconic moments which make us the humans we are today and the history of the world. I studied areas such as the Tudors, Russia, Britain, Germany and the world wars.
I have over 200 hours of volunteering including teaching experience through volunteering and work placements. For both years in sixth form, I was a one on one reading tutor for children aged 11-15, it was great to watch the children improve in their reading. I tried to encourage their reading by making Glossary sheets of words they did not know how to read, with a definition and sounding out of the word.
Also, in sixth form and for 2 weeks in June 2017 I completed work experience at a school for children with physical and developmental disabilities. Furthermore for the rest of the summer of 2017 I worked as a nursery assistant for children with developmental disabilities.
I will structure my tutorials to how the individual wants them to be. To give a rough idea of what approach I would take is; I will firstly go over any help that students need in certain areas of their work, e.g their homework for that week. Then I would like to go further and help develop their knowledge in further details to help boost up their grades. I also have a lot of very good revision techniques which I am more then happy to share with the student to improve their learning. I will prepare for the tutor session in any way I can by revising the area myself before the session begins.
