Tutoring Experience:

Although I haven't been a professional tutor before, I believe I am acquainted with all the necessary skills to be a successful tutor due a number of different roles I have undertaken. I would like to outline the main roles requiring a substantial amount of teaching.

Firstly, at RMGS, I was a Senior Student in Mathematics and Science, being the Head Senior Student of Chemistry in particular. As a result, I was a teacher for intervention lessons helping students from Years 7 to 9 struggling at mathematics or any of the sciences improve their knowledge and understanding of the subject. Furthermore, as Year 13 prefect, I was assigned a Year 7 form and I worked with their form tutor to help all of the students in the form to settle in and clear any doubts regarding school work or homework. Thus, I believe I have developed the skill-set required to ensure students make progress and achieve the best possible outcome.

Secondly, I have obtained the Foreign Language Leadership Award (FLLA). This award involved going into primary schools and teaching children French or Spanish. Hence, I believe I have a versatile range of skills to deal with different students.

Finally, I was part of the school UKMT Senior Maths Challenge Team in Year 12 (where we reached the National Finals after winning the Regional Finals) and captain of the same team in Year 13 (with different members). Using my experience, in Year 13, I trained two Year 12s meticulously to enable us to obtain the highest ranking possible. Therefore, I believe I can help to prepare students for the toughest of challenges.

I will incorporate skills enhanced from my previous experiences to provide an effective tutoring service.

Tutoring Approach:

Before the first lesson, I will ask the tutee to disclose any particular topics they would like to focus on specifically, such as any troublesome areas or even new chapters that he/she is yet to learn in their respective schools. I will ensure that I tailor the lesson to the tutee's requirements and style of learning while ensuring that the tutee is prepared to score highly in any school tests.

Crucially, I will use many past papers and various question resources as a source of understanding the way answers are presented in Mark Schemes for different subjects. However, most importantly, I will make sure that I teach the subject specification of the particular board studied by the tutee at school using appropriate materials. This way, I will hopefully help the tutee to progress rapidly.
