Hello, my name is Abby and I am a Biology enthusiast! I am currently working towards my MRes in Biological Sciences, after having achieved a BSc with Honours at the University of Manchester. I thoroughly enjoy Biology and enjoy discussing issues at a high level, or providing insight to help teach facts. I believe that the dissemination of knowledge is important and it is something I bear in mind with my research. My current project is taking place at Chester Zoo, which is a fantastic opportunity, and I hope to contribute to the animal well being in a captive environment.
For GCSE and A level I am familiar with all aspects of the course. At University level my areas are evolution, behaviour and conservation.
I have not had any experience with one to one tutoring as of yet, however I have often been involved in group sessions. For example at University we would have weekly sessions where there was no one individual to teach, we would call on our different strengths to teach what we knew to each other.
In Biology I work in areas that are not so widely known to my peers, and so I am often explaining the work I do in detail. Whilst at the zoo am I explain my work to a variety of people from zoo keepers to the general public.
When an individual is struggling with a particular topic I find that providing context can give them the tools to solve a variety of problems, rather than the narrow issue they are dealing with at the time. Learning facts is important, and vital for passing exams, however understanding the contextual background can help cement these facts and if facts are forgotten a grounding in the background can help you come to educated assumptions.
