I am a fully qualified (QTS) Maths teacher with 19 years of experience successfully teaching students at GCSE and A level. I gained a 2-1 BSc in Mathematics from the University of Leeds followed by a PGCE in Secondary Maths education. I am interested in fitness, swimming and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
I started teaching GCSE and A Level Maths in 2000, teaching in Oxfordshire till 2004 followed by a post in Calderdale. I have been a Head of Maths at a public school and have recent experience of exam marking for A level and GCSE.
19 years of teaching and working with young maths students has given me a good understanding of the variety of problems a learner may face as well as how to explain difficult subject material to help a learner make outstanding progress.
All learners are unique and I aim to maximise a learners progress by carefully identifying areas of understanding and misconception, then providing a tailored learning experience designed to maximise progress.
Mathematics is a conceptual subject, this requires students to have a grasp of why things work not just how. Through careful questioning, the learner discussing their reasoning, working through examples and exam style questions a conscientious learner can make huge gains in their understanding.
I aim to provide a friendly and purposeful tutoring experience where the learner feels confident to explain their thinking without the fear of making mistakes.
