Average Cost of Private Tuition, Academic Year 2013-14

04/09/2014, London. Families across the nation paid an average of £24.00 per hour for private tuition in the last year. This year FirstTutors.com found that private tuition fees for academic subjects have increased by a whopping 11% in the capital, whilst prices increases have remained modest on average across the rest of the country. 

South West London is the UK's most expensive tuition hot spot with prices there averaging just over £30ph, whilst Plymouth tutors come in cheapest, charging less than £20ph on average. 

Families seeking private tuition for both primary level subjects and early secondary tuition paid just under £22ph on average. GCSE or National 5 (formerly Standards) candidates paid £23ph, whilst those sitting A-Levels and Highers, or seeking help for university level tuition paid around the £27ph mark.
