Personal Description:

I am a freelance tutor, musician and composer based in Manchester. From a very young age, I have been devoted to music, that is why I have completed both an undergraduate and masters degree in music at two of the most respected higher education institutions in the UK. I have been working as a freelance musician for over a decade, and I am passionate about spreading my knowledge to the next generation of musicians!

I am most well known as a composer, having composed music for a full-length musical, for an album, for several short films, for a commercial podcast, for an orchestra, for a big band, and for a variety of other concert music which has been performed by numerous ensembles and soloists across an eclectic range of genres across the UK.

I have also performed music in many contexts, most notably I have extensive pit orchestra work, collaborating with musical directors, fellow musicians, and cast members to ensure professional-quality performances. I have worked professionally on the following shows: 'Flashdance', 'Oh What A Lovely War!', 'Sister Act', 'Fame!', and multiple British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT) shows.

- Designed and delivered engaging lesson plans to complement the school curriculum and improve reading, writing, and analytical skills.
- Supported pupils in preparing for GCSE examinations, boosting confidence and attainment levels.
- Built strong rapport with students, teachers, and parents, ensuring clear communication of progress and learning objectives.
- Developed patience, empathy, and adaptability, creating a supportive learning environment that encouraged students to engage and succeed.
- Maintained accurate records of progress and reported outcomes in line with safeguarding and organisational policies.

Tutoring Approach:

I am all about adaptability and meeting the need of the student. Whether they are attempting to get an A* in their Music GCSE, or they are wanting to learn how to write music for an orchestra, I am there to assist the student in whatever capacity I am required to. I will do this through assessing where a student is at and developing a plan and approach in order to help the student reach their target. I do this through an approach called 'scaffolding', a teaching technique where a tutor provides temporary support to a learner to help them grasp new concepts or master a skill, gradually reducing that support as the learner gains competence and independence. Over time, the student will progress and we will make new targets together, letting the student feel included in the process of their learning rather than feel they are just being talked at.
