Information About Wendy - Ilkeston teacher
I am passionate about music from the Middle ages to the Baroque, and I play the recorder and Baroque flute professionally. I also play and teach the viola da gamba both privately and at the University of Nottingham. I have an MA in 'The Interpretation and Editing of Renaissance and Baroque music', and an M.Phil by research on 'The Origins of Basso Continuo in England', as well as an LTCL in recorder performance. I also do research and write articles and review books and music.
I have been teaching the recorder and the viol to individuals and in groups for more than 30 years, both privately, at the University of Nottingham, and on summer schools such as the Dolmetsch Summer School, Norvis, and in Mechelen (Belgium) and in Mers les Bain (France).
Above all I wish to help my students to make music. This of course involves serious background work in the playing of scales and arpeggios, and fully understanding rhythm and the way notation works. But above all I wish to convey an understanding of the musical substance, through an awareness of phrasing, harmonic background ( I accompany my students on the harpsichord, or piano where appropriate), and period style.
