Personal Description:
I teach cello, piano, music theory and composition to any age, for any style of music. I am classically trained at Masters level in cello and piano, theory and composition, having studied at the University of Athens and Goldsmiths College, University of London. I have also received external training from ABRSM London Conferences, the Learning Trust, NSPCC and others.
Alongside teaching, I am a performer and composer, specialising in experimental, improvisational and collaborative/multi-media projects. I also play traditional Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern music.
Tutoring Experience:
I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have over 15 years’ experience teaching both privately and in London schools through institutions such as the Guildhall School of Music and Hackney, Southwark and Waltham Forest Music Services. I have prepared many students for ABRSM and Trinity graded exams up to Grade 8+, foundation and undergraduate programmes in cello, piano and music theory with a good record of success. I have also taught beginner violin and GCSE and AS/A Level Music.
As well as my teaching experience both privately and in schools, I have over 200 hours' experience teaching online and have found it an ideal platform to reach students around the world. I have put careful consideration into my online teaching set-up to ensure that my students' learning is not negatively affected by distance - for example, I use a visualiser during piano lessons so my students can clearly see what my hands are doing. Over the years my students have ranged from young children picking up an instrument for the first time, to adult learners, and advanced players studying towards diploma and university examinations.
Tutoring Approach:
As a performing musician with a background in a variety of styles including classical, pop, experimental and traditional music I offer my students versatility and flexibility to explore whatever music they are passionate in. I offer a low-cost trial lesson to my students (£10) so that we can get to know each other and agree on what we’d like to work towards together. I offer 30, 45 and 60 minu**Contact Detail Removed**ssons. My teaching often involves a degree of improvisation and music theory, as well as repertoire, as I believe that these are an important part of learning music. My aim as a teacher is to instil a love for music to my students. Ultimately, I want to help them become independent learners by showing them how to think critically and how to break down any challenge into achievable components.
