Information About Thuy Trinh - Lambeth teacher

Personal Description:

NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trinh is fully prepared to provide online lessons using Zoom.

Born in London and Trinh begun her musical journey at the age of 5. After studying with various prestigious pianists such as Vita Panomariovaite and Gabriele Baldocci, she went on to study at the London College of Music (part of the University of West London). She graduated with Masters in Music Performance at LCM and was taught under Natasa Sarcevic. Whilst at LCM, she has benefited from masterclasses from Bryce Morrison, Gustavo Tolosa, and much more. This resulted in her to gain the status of highly commended from the Mona Blackman Piano competition.
She was always keen to share her passion for music. She gave many concerts in various prestigious venues in London, playing repertoire that spans the centuries, from early keyboard sonatas to contemporary music as a soloist and accompanist. As a freelance musician, she regularly performs for several function events within and outside the UK. These experiences also allowed her to work in Pennsylvania (USA) as an accompanist in Camp Equinunk and Camp Blue Ridge (CECBR). This includes performing for large ensembles and soloists, which spans from age 5 to 18. Teaching and accompanying students at CECBR influenced her to pursue teaching as her career.

Tutoring Experience:

She has taught classical piano and general musicianship for almost 10 years around many parts of London. She has taught one to one and led large ensembles to students from four and beyond (including adults). Currently, Trinh also teaches piano at Tiffin school and leads a number of workshops and ensembles. As a teacher, she saw many benefits when students learn an instrument- Relieving stress, boosting creativity and being a better problem solver. Therefore, her greatest passion in life is sharing her experience and knowledge in music and being part of one’s musical journey.

Tutoring Approach:

Trinh has taught students from all steps of their musical journey, whether they are just starting their journey or pursuing music exams. Every student is different; therefore, Trinh adjusts her lessons accordingly. For young beginner students, Trinh incorporates a lot of games and exercises into her lessons. However, most importantly, Trinh emphasises the importance of playing the piano with the correct technique, especially for those beginning to play the piano. Trinh mainly teaches young students using the Kodaly Method.

As for advanced students or those pursuing graded exams, further piano technique is focused on as pieces are more complex and technically challenging. Therefore, alongside learning scales and arpeggios (required for graded exams), Trinh also teaches various etudes, studies and exercises (Czerny and Hanon.)
