Personal Description:

Tom is currently studying harpsichord with Terence Charlston at the Royal College of Music where he is fortunate to be an H R Taylor Trust Scholar. His principal musical interest is the music of the German High Baroque. He previously studied at the University of York at undergraduate and postgraduate level, studying harpsichord with Catherine Pierron and Peter Seymour. Graduating with first-class honours, his main undergraduate research focused on the stage music of John Stanley (1712-1786), culminating in a critical edition of his oratorio Jephtha (c. 1751) and the work’s first-ever performance the following year by the University of York Chamber Choir and Baroque Ensemble. His MA by Research built on this with the creation of a critical edition of Stanley’s last oratorio, The Fall of Egypt (1774). Performances directed from the harpsichord have included Bach Brandenburg Concertos and Orchestral Suites, as well as Pergolesi Stabat Mater. Further continuo performances included Bach Christmas, Easter and Ascension oratorios; Bach St John Passion and trumpet concertos with Crispian Steele-Perkins. Tom has played with Ad Hoc Baroque in Leeds and led several lunchtime concerts, including a recent ‘dementia-friendly’ oboe and piano recital at St Chad’s Church in York.
