Personal Description:

Hi my name is Tom , I am a freelance Producer, DJ and Educator based in East Berkshire. I specialise in music technology, music production and performance using apps such as Ableton Live, Logic and Maschine.
I teach from a spacious and comfortable studio at Charborough Media in Ascot, and I have been teaching in the field of music technology for over 10 years.
I write and produce for a mix of artists and independent record labels, and compose electronic music for visual media with some of my work featured on Channel 4 and Sky TV.
I also work with the music software developer Native Instruments as an educator leading the Native Meetup programme in Reading, Berkshire.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching software and synth-based music creation on a one-to-one basis since 2013. Prior to that I spent 6 years working in non-formal education developing my skills as a music leader in schools, youth centres and on a number of major arts projects. This includes work with the leading youth music charity Readipop. Delivering AQA and Arts Award accredited learning for Bucks County Council/Soundstudio, and outreach work with the award winning Point Blank Music School in London.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning the craft of music production differs greatly from learning to play a single instrument. There are many skills and techniques involved using a broad range of software and hardware applications, which can be hugely daunting at first. The desired outcome however is usually always to create or record a piece of music.

I try to simplify and de-mystify this process by working with each student to find out their interests, and take a tailored approach based on their existing knowledge of music tech, experience and musicianship.
Many clients come to me at beginner level after buying a new piece of kit such as Ableton Live, and would like some help in getting the most from it. On the other hand some clients have an existing knowledge of music production, they may be aspiring producers and would like to learn more advanced skills in programming a specific synth or mixing one of their own tracks. I strive to help and support each client achieve their individual goals.

My specialist areas are Ableton Live and Native Instruments Maschine. I teach all aspects of music production on each platform from beginner level to advanced. I also provide training on Logic and lots of other plugins inc. Omnisphere, Kontakt, Reaktor, Serum, Massive, Waves and many more.

If you have any questions, or would like help with any music tech not listed here please get in touch.
