Personal Description:

I am a bassist and guitarist with 15 years experience and am confident playing any genre of music. I am a strong sight reader and improviser, comfortable playing with or without click, and equally at home in studio and live playing environments.

I have performed in many prestigious venues, from large festivals to theatres and concert halls, and tracks featuring my bass playing have been broadcast on TV as well as numerous radio stations including BBC Radio 2, 3, and 6Music. I regularly work in recording studios across the UK as a session musician as well as in the live environment. Currently, my main projects are Jodie Marie (Decca Records/Transgressive), Tankus The Henge, Jimmy Brewer, and Valleyers.

I am patient, enthusiastic and easy to get along with, and try to engage students at their level as much as I can.

Tutoring Experience:

I offer lessons in the following areas:

Bass Guitar (Beginner to Advanced)
Double Bass (Beginner to Intermediate)
Electric / Acoustic Guitar (Beginner to Intermediate)
Theory (Beginner to Advanced)
Jazz / Improvisation (Beginner to Advanced)
Ear Training
Analysis
GCSE/A Level Tutoring
Critical Listening (Also for Non-Playing Enthusiasts)
Group Coaching (for Bands and Ensembles)

I am an experienced teacher with an established track record, having been employed by a variety of music services and private students over the years, with many of my students going on to study music at Universities and Conservatoires, and work as professional musicians. I have taught many different ages; from 9 years old to OAP’s, and regardless of how seriously you would like to take playing music, I can guarantee satisfaction and progress in a fun and stimulating learning environment.

Please Note: I am not experienced in teaching under 9's so therefore will not accept those requests.

Tutoring Approach:

My own teaching methodologies are based on my experiences studying with many world class musicians (which I still do, whenever possible). I take bass and guitar students from absolute beginner upwards, but also take more advanced students on other instruments as the musical concepts I teach are transferable to ANY instrument, as long as they have a certain amount of technical ability already.

I am a great believer in the unlimited learning potential of people, always reinforcing the thought that "nothing is impossible, just unfamiliar".

The delivery method during lessons varies according to the interests and needs of each student. I ask any new student to bring whatever they are currently working on/learning/listening to for the first lesson. As each lesson is tailored to the individual, we will then use whatever you bring to initially as a starting point to develop you musically in the future.

Although the lessons are unique to each student, I believe there is a core musical knowledge base which everyone should have a grasp of, if they play an instrument. I try to feed this knowledge to the student via the music they connect with the most, and also use music they already like as a starting point to expand the variety of music they listen to.
