Information About Tom - Kilmacolm teacher - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Tom:
I am a very experienced professional piper and have performed in around 36 countries. I have regular students and also offer condensed residential tuition utilising local B&B's.
I teach Bagpipes and practice chanter.
The practice chanter is the instrument that you learn on to begin with, and even later on you will learn to play new tunes on it.
This is because it is too difficult to try and blow up a set of pipes and learn a tune on the pipe chanter, so you must use the practice chanter.
I have taught privately for many years, also at the National Piping Centre and at various workshops in the USA.
I also teach by Skype for those a bit further away.
I teach beginners, intermediate, advanced in both light music and Piobaireachd.

I like to teach in a progressive fashion whereby my students can see progress each week [or per session] as I believe that to labour the basics for too long can lead to the student being disillusioned and make them bored and want to give up. For instance, once the student knows the rudiments and says that he or she wants to play, say, "Highland Cathedral" then I will teach them that tune as I believe it makes their learning interesting and keeps up their enthusiasm.
In return, I like to see the student putting in the work between each lesson thus creating a win-win situation!
