Information About Tim - Ellesmere Port teacher
I am 31. I have been playing guitar since I was 12. I have gained all my guitar and music theory grades. I have also achieve a Btech NDP in Popular Music. I am a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors.I have been playing in bands since I was 13, and continue to do so on a more casual basis now that I am teaching a lot more.
I have been teaching guitar and music theory for about 1 year. I teach children and adults. I teach on a one to one basis, and also as a group lesson. I volunteer at a youth club and teach children who live behaviour and domestic issues which gives me valuable experience in teaching children who do not have the same advantages and capacities as others.
My approach very often depends on who I am teaching. Normally, I would prepare as much as I can. In an hours lesson, I would do a few warm up exercises first, this is often just a case of the student showing me the previous 'homework' I set them.I will either congratulate them and move on if it is all correct, or go over the errors if need be. I would then do a part of the grade syllabus, or if the student is not wanting to cover grades, I would just cover some general knowledge and techniques. Then I would cover a new song with the student and usually set them to complete it as homework. Depending on the student and their age, they may not be able to concentrate on learning in this way for an hour. Instead I may try to motivate them by putting one of their favourite songs on the stereo and trying to teach music to them in this way. For example, what instruments are playing? Or, can you tap out the rhythm for the song? Whoever I am teaching I try to have fun and keep them motivated and interested in anyway possible.
