Information About Susan - Woodford Green teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Susan:
I am passionate about music. I have delivered one to one tuition and classroom training for over 25 years. I teach music theory from the complete beginner up to and including ABRSM Grade 5. I also teach those who do not wish to take exams. I teach in a kind, patient and thorough way. I am equally happy teaching children or adults. One of my students, a seventy year old man, has just passed ABRSM Grade 4 Music Theory with Distinction - 93%.
I have gained a distinction in ABRSM Music Theory Grade 4 and a merit in Grade 5. I am currently studying for Grade 7 Violin and Grade 6 Music Theory. I have also passed ABRSM Violin exams Grades 2-6 (Grades 2-4 with merit), and I have passed ABRSM Cello exams Grades 1-3 (Grades 1 with merit and 3 with distinction). I have played violin in a number of different ensembles, with music ranging from classical to romantic and folk to modern. I intend to offer violin lessons as well as music theory in the near future.
I believe that learning should be an enjoyable, rewarding experience not a painful or boring one. On a one to one basis, I have always tailored my teaching methodology to bring out the best in the student so that they can realise their full potential.
For more than twenty five years, I have built up my teaching experience working as an Information Technology Trainer. At the same time, I continued my musical studies, played in various string ensembles, passed theory and violin ABRSM exams and started to tutor family members and friends in music theory with the intention of extending music theory tutoring to the general public.
During my teaching career, I became used to teaching a complete cross section of people e.g. different ages, backgrounds, nationalities and abilities. I also trained in a wide variety of different situations ranging from one-to-one tuition (at work and home) to formal classroom training to lecturing large audiences to teaching and facilitating online. My client list includes large corporations including the BBC, British Gas, Ove Arup and Partners, various NHS Trusts, the legal profession, employment agencies, training agencies, and private clients sometimes in their own homes.
I have always tailored my teaching to suit the individual. Everyone learns differently and has different reasons for learning music theory, e.g. you may want it to help with your musical instrument playing or you may want to pass ABRSM graded exams. Everyone learns at a different pace and I always adjust this to meet the needs of the student
Whatever your needs you can be assured that the course will be thoroughly taught and follow the ABRSM syllabus from Grade I to Grade V inclusive.
You will be taught in a sympathetic and patient way through a mixture of written and practical exercises. However we will not just be looking at e.g. studying the written notes on the stave; we will be relating theory to actual music ie using a keyboard, musical software, clapping rhythms, singing and I will also use my violin and cello. In this way written concepts will become memorable and of course, enjoyable and fun. When it suits the individual (especially children) there will be quizzes and games. There will also be written homework between sessions, which will be marked, in order to consolidate your learning and help both student and tutor to assess progress.
