This is how 2 referees rated Stephen:
I have several years experience teaching piano and music theory to students of all ages and abilities. I achieved a Licentiateship of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Piano Performance and I received an MA in Music from the University of Cambridge.
I myself studied piano with Dr Ian Jones at the Royal College of Music in London and then with Professor Malcolm Wilson, former Head of Keyboard at the Birmingham Conservatoire. In my years playing piano I have given many public performances as both a soloist and an accompanist and I have won piano performance classes at music festivals in Birmingham, Lichfield, Leamington Spa, Dudley and Northfield. I was also awarded an exhibition for my performances in my first year undergraduate exams at the University of Cambridge.
I continue to teach piano and music theory as well as performing as an accompanist for concerts, rehearsals, competitions and examinations around the West Midlands.
I have 3+ years of teaching experience and I have taught classical, jazz and pop piano with experience of preparing my students for ABRSM and Trinity College London music exams, including the ABRSM Jazz Piano exams. I have a very high success rate for all my pupils entered into music examinations, including two marks of 99 out of 100 for two of my music theory students and a mark of 140 out of 150 for one of my Grade 6 piano students.
In addition to my private tuition, I also teach piano at a school in Coventry, where I frequently accompany many of the students for concerts, competitions and examinations.
Working with children and adults is something I enjoy immensely and take great pride in and my aim is to provide a friendly and supportive environment of learning tailored to the student's abilities. From a young age I was given great opportunities to develop my musical abilities through participation in concerts, competitions and extra-curricular music clubs at school and these were things that I very much enjoyed. I believe passionately that such activities and opportunities for performance are essential for any student’s development.
My piano teachers were a great inspiration to me through their love of music and dedication to teaching. My hope is that I may be an inspiration to the next generation of musicians myself, through my professionalism, ability and courteous and respectful manner.
