Personal Description:

I have a very strong musical background, my dad is a drummer and my mum is a singer. I have grown up in a very rhythmic environment, listening to a lot of funk and jazz classics which I believe are the backbone of drumming. I started playing the trumpet when I was 10 years old. I am adept in reading music as well as sight reading music. I now play the drums and am at grade 8. I have a large amount of experience playing in various bands and being taught by many different teachers. This has allowed me to learn a varied range of techniques and to play in a variety of situations. I am 19 years old and am dedicated to my instrument, taking a practice pad whenever I am away from my kit. I am currently studying at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught students before, for friends of family, and have helped them get through their grade exams as well as encouraged them to a higher level of technique. Although I have achieved my grade qualifications in the Trinity Guildhall syllabus, I also have experience playing the Trinity Rock & Pop school syllabus for my A level practical exam. I also took a gap year working at my local secondary school in the music department which involved both teaching the drums as well as general classroom teaching. These situations gave me suitable experience to teach and a structured teaching frame to enable my students to achieve their goals.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a firm but relaxed approach to teaching. I am strict with technique drills and practice; expecting my students to do practice in their own time as well as the sessions with myself. I believe that teaching the basics are the key to reaching a high level of playing. Also, I make sure my students are comfortable with what they are learning and don't get lost or confused along the way. Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to have fun - I don't wish to put my students off the instrument by creating a dull experience of learning. I hope this, and I am told has, provides my students with a teaching experience that they find both enjoyable and extremely helpful.
