Personal Description:

Online Tuition offered!
My name is Sophie. I am from Ireland. I have been teaching violin, viola, cello and double bass for 8 years. I moved to Glasgow 3 years ago. I am currently working at the RCS teaching violin and viola, and do freelance double bass work with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
I began learning violin at the age of 8 I studied piano for several years before taking up the cello at the age of 16. When i was 17 I started viola and double bass. At 18 I started my Bmus degree on double bass with viola as my second instrument. In 2017 I received a scholarship from the RCS to study my MMus in double bass performance.
I have ABRSM grade 8 in violin, viola, cello and double bass as well as grade 8 theory.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching for years both privately and through schools. I am currently employed with the RCS where I teach violin and viola in their music centres department as well as their early years department (specializing in student education between the ages of 4 and 7). I was employed by Glasgow City Council as a cello teacher and caught one on one and group cello lessons for two years.
Prior to moving to Glasgow I taught and co founded Musica Fusion School of Music where I was the head string tutor and taught violin, viola, cello and double bass as well as coaching chamber groups and conducting the schools two orchestras.
I have experience teaching one on one and groups of 2 up to 30. I have taught students of a wide range of abilities from beginner to advanced as well as a variety of ages, from 4 to 84!

Tutoring Approach:

I try to keep my teaching style as flexible as possible! I feel that no two people learn the same way and so it is my job to find a system that works for each individual!
I am happy to help guide my students on their musical path which ever way they decide to go, whether doing exams, playing for fun or working towards studying music at 3rd level.
My aim with music is that whatever your level or age music should be fun!
