My name is Sophie and I am a very passionate and committed violin and viola player. I've been playing violin for 15 years and had the privilege of having been taught by brilliant professional violinists throughout my life who have helped me learn both the joys of playing and interpreting music and the satisfaction of using self discipline to achieve things that are technically challenging. I'm currently studying undergraduate biology at the University of Sheffield while playing lots of music through the university symphony orchestra and by becoming coordinator of the music players' society string group.
My teaching experience is currently limited to a few roles as a substitute teacher in my music school, and some informal lessons in my home.
I see playing the violin fundamentally as a form of expression and an exploration of music through the process. I therefore like to focus as much as possible on making sure a pupil enjoys what they're doing and gets to focus on the meaning of the music as well as being sure to instruct them on good technique and technical skills. I think a balance of studies and scales along with pieces is important but I'm also happy to adapt to what a pupil wants and needs.
