Personal Description:
I was an international singer/songwriter before I began teaching full time. I'm a musician with over 20 years experience in performance and composition.
Originally from Cumbria, I moved to York in 2015 to enhance my teaching career and support others in the art of learning a musical instrument.
I'm a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT), the Performers Rights Society (PRS), the Ukulele Society of Great Britain and the York Music Hub. I teach guitar, ukulele and piano to beginners and intermediates.
I have released 13 albums and have composed music for independent films, plays, internet chat-shows, gaming podcasts and even books.
My second album was featured in iTunes 'Best of' 2012.
Outside of music, I'm an author of comedy novellas and a professional cartoonist and illustrator.
Tutoring Experience:
I moved to York in November 2015 and set up my teaching practice in January 2017. I teach all ages (6+).
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is to make learning an instrument fun. My lessons are informal and relaxed and, once settled, I let the student dictate what lessons consist of. For younger students, I make lessons fun with games I have created such as Strumpluck, Bravura, Jumble Scale, and Chord Battleships. The syllabus is still being taught but it is much more fun and interactive.
I can teach students at home but it will cost extra for this.

sid gave a fist lesson to my son after charging me £66 for two lessons on the 19th of January while my son was to turn 6 In four days which is 23rd of January, the lesson went well from his comment but said 1 hour was too long which i agreed with him. we agreed to do 30 mins per session instead. couple of days later I hot an end from Sid saying that I did not tell him that my son was 5 years old while my son was turning 6 in 4 days after the start date. he calling me a liar is not just the insult but not refunding half of the money he took from me he instead refunded just £25 after I argued the initial £20 he was going to refund it's a rip off , using tjis as an excuse to take money off me brought an old book and told to me for £,6 without receipt is in acceptable. my son was left upset and let down , I feel insulted and ripped off
Two lessons were booked at £20 each, plus £20 for home tuition and £6 for a book. After the first lesson, in which I found out I had been lied to (paint it how you like, you lied about his age) I stopped lessons and refunded £25. We weren't a good fit, I'm never comfortable in a home where a parent tells me I can shout at their child. You are allowed to feel insulted at me calling you a liar, but that doesn't change that you lied. As previously stated, you could have told me your son was close to six or about to turn six but you didn't, you told me he was six and that wasn't true and I make a point of it simply because you were upset about the site being misleading and it was a very hypocritical thing to do.
Now let's both move on.
