Personal Description:
Hi! I’m a singer and pianist and an ambitious student studying Music at Durham University and really enjoy tutoring! I had always enjoyed music theory especially when I was first learning and still am with the various theory and analysis modules I am taking in my 2nd year. I hope to pass the same understanding and excitement to the students who are quite daunted by its concepts and the extension into music as a subject. I began my tutoring journey at the start of Sixth Form with a tutoring company, honing my teaching skills for nearly 2 years. Now that I’m studying at university, with much more experience and actively picking up theory modules, I would love to use my course as a basis to return as a tutor for Music and Music theory - eg GCSEs, ABRSM Grades, refreshers.
Tutoring Experience:
- Worked for over a year at a tutoring company (December 2022-July 2024) primarily as an English and Maths tutor.
- Experience tutoring a range of ages from 4-15 - taught me to be adaptable and cater to student’s learning styles.
- Welfare and Safeguarding trained
- Various responsibilities as music prefect at Sixth Form gave me many transferable skills, e.g. helping students from younger years during choirs and orchestras by leading sectionals.
- Am on the executive team for the University Choir as Librarian this year - engaged in looking at choral scores extracurricularly too.
Tutoring Approach:
- Flexible - centred around the specific student - with a focus on individual-tailored lessons that draw on their preferred learning style.
- Scaffolding technique - emphasis on giving the student the tools to understand areas they find difficult without micro managing their learning to ultimately to give them the confidence in attempting questions independently.
- Interactive sessions - learning concepts alongside the application to ensure clarity and understanding. I think this is the most important approach because music and music theory can be very densely conceptual and seeing it written out onto score or on a piano greatly helps visualise the rules and theory system.

Shreya has been an outstanding tutor for my son in Music Theory. She explains complex concepts with great clarity, making each lesson engaging and easy to follow. Her teaching style is structured yet friendly, which has really helped build Siddhant’s confidence and deepen his understanding of the subject.
She is always punctual, well-prepared, and adapts her lessons thoughtfully based on my son's progress and areas for improvement. Since starting with her, we’ve seen a clear improvement in his grasp of music theory and his overall enthusiasm for learning.
I would highly recommend Shreya to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, patient, and supportive music tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ growth and success.
